Was John Brunner’s life a tragedy? In some undeniable senses, yes. Possessed of enormous talents, but also an array of character faults, he became his own worst enemy and his later-era career suffered immensely in large part due to one poor decision to stake too much effort and hopes on a mainstream novel that took too long to write and then failed to sell (
The Great Steamboat Race). And atop those business setbacks, his health was poor and he died awfully young only age 60 in a cosmically apt but somewhat inglorious setting: the 1995 Worldcon.
But on the other hand, now that we have passed the 25th anniversary of his death, the personal details of his life the mortal horrors and human mundanities recede somewhat from the foreground of his biography, and the mountain ranges of his books remain. Thus it is with every writer, great and small, in their posthumous days. And so we can now see that Brunner’s life was, using this perspective, consequential and victorious, not an unmo

Loren’s brother-in-law fell sick six weeks after the last rack-and-pinion train departed for the base of the mountain and three weeks after winter closed over the mine like a frozen diamond pane. A layer of cloud hid the world far below, gray and silver in the winter-long night. Thunderheads drifted past, stately as tall ships under starshine, and you could watch them rise and collide and throb with lightning until your eyes froze over. Which took about eight seconds.
And in the stone hollow of a second-shift barracks within the mountain’s peak, Loren tried to do what he’d seen the old witch do. Start with the pulse, he thought. That’s simple enough.

“Hey, that ROGER RABBIT movie was great!”
“Yeah, but what if Jessica Rabbit actually f cked Eddie Valentine? That’s what people really wanted, right?”
“…”
I absolutely cannot believe I watched COOL WORLD when I was eight years old. Thankfully, most of its adult themes and R-rated jokes went over my head… or I just internalized and suppressed them to an unhealthy degree. (This would explain a lot.) I mean, I definitely remember having uncomfortable, confusing feelings about a sexed-up animated Kim Basinger after watching this…
Eight-year old Jason watching this movie for the first time.
2021 NFL Draft: Fantasy Rookie Report - Wide Receivers
Senior fantasy analyst Michael Fabiano breaks down the incoming rookie receivers on-field & fantasy potential
Author:
There was a time when rookie wide receivers didn’t make much of an impact in the world of fantasy football. Even some of the eventual greatest players at the position, including Jerry Rice, Antonio Brown, Isaac Bruce, and Calvin Johnson (to name just a few), failed to produce huge numbers during their first NFL seasons.
However, things have certainly changed over time as changes to NFL rules and more pro-style college offenses have made rookie wideouts more attractive from a fantasy standpoint. During the Super Bowl era (1966-present), six of the top 10 best seasons from first-year receivers based on fantasy points have come since 2003.

Posters were going up all along Beetlebrass Street that morning. Some enterprising sergeant had put the city’s street children to work, paying them perhaps in haepennies to dash along its undulating cobblestones and paste writs of requisition across every storefront. Ustuus Creeg stopped to retrieve a loose one before the wind took it.
Save the last bite for Private Cly it read, referencing the bashful soldier shown accepting a slice of pie from a pretty girl. The dictate below was still legible, ordering a tenth of every household’s organic intake reserved for military seizure, and offering examples such as breadcrusts, fruit cores, soup bones, anything nutrient-rich.
